Services

The following services are offered to adult women 18+ who have difficulties with activities of daily living because of mental health challenges.

Education &
Coaching.

At the core of my work is an understanding of the need to strengthen and draw on a wide range of supports to assist the client on their recovery journey.

Occupational performance coaching is a person-centred, relational approach to improve participation in activities of daily living and social participation.

Coaching is an effective intervention to achieve change in a person’s occupational performance and improve caregiver’s self-efficacy.

Many women and their families present to me having been diagnosed and treated through the medical system.

Psychoeducation regarding diagnoses and the benefit of therapy is therefore a key element of the work. By developing knowledge and understanding, psychoeducation helps individuals and families feel more engaged, reduces stigma, and empowers them in a situation where they are struggling.

Assessments

Assessment involves using a range of different tools as a foundation of planning supports and therapeutic interventions.

I offer assessments as a stand-alone service without the ongoing commitment of therapeutic intervention.

A report is then completed including details of the assessment and recommendations from an Occupational Therapy perspective.

Functional capacity assessment

Assesses the limitations which impact daily functioning because of medical condition(s).

Sensory assessment

Reviews 8 sensory systems and how they impact participation in activities of daily living.

Risk and personal safety

Identifies and address any risks to the participants health and wellbeing and that of others.

Cognitive assessment

Identifies problems with brain functions and the impact on everyday activity.

Therapy.

I use a person-centred approach to therapy, treating clients as a person and not a condition to be treated. This involves understanding what is important to the client, their family, and support people. It also means working together to share decisions and plan care.

Therapy is trauma informed, emphasising physical, psychological, and emotional safety for everyone. My clients are empowered to re-establish control of their lives.

I offer a recovery orientated service. Understanding that each person is different and should be supported to make their own choices, listened to and treated with dignity and respect. Recovery will mean different things to different people.

Occupation-focused interventions focus on motivation, leisure and play, habits and routines, meaningful roles, prevocational and vocational rehab, life skills, functional cognition, physical activity, community tenure and independence, communication and interaction, self-management, emotional regulation, and environment.

I utilise a range of structured therapeutic tools and interventions to reduce the impact of clinical symptoms, improving the person’s functional capacity and ability to pursue activities, occupations and goals and promote recovery.
